The Venice of East

Travelling in Udaipur Venice of the East: All about the Travel with Budget Discussions

Very conveniently referred to as the Venice of the East, Udaipur is one of the most magical localities in Rajasthan. Its lakes, palaces and the cultural richness, this city is a perfect blend of the history, romance and natural beauty

Udaipur City View

Why Udaipur?

Udaipur is a city in the Aravalli Hills which is famous because of the lakes which are very shiny, especially lake Pichola and Fateh Sagar Lake. The architectural wonders which are present in the city include the City Palace, Jag Mandir, and the Lake Palace. The streets are narrow and full of colorful markets and smell of local delicacies to this.

Day 1: Arrival and Old City Tour Day 1: Arrival and Old City Tour

I booked into a heritage hotel that overlooks the Lake Pichola. The first day was spent visiting the City Palace, which has incredible sceneries of the city and the lake. I also had a boat ride in Lake Pichola but in the evening I could watch the sunset over Lake Palace.

Day 2: Cuisine and Culture

I went to City Palace and Bagore Ki Haveli Museum and had lunch in a traditional thali of rajasthan. The cultural performance at Bagore Ki Haveli in the evening was also a delight as it made us witness the folk dances and puppet shows.

Day 3: Lake Side Peace

In the morning I went to the Fateh Sagar Lake and to Saheliyon Ki Bari gardens which are near the lake. The trip ended with a relaxed brunch by the lake followed by a trip back.

Udaipur actually lives to its image of being the Venice of the East. Being a history buff, a culture connoisseur or someone who just wants to relax by the lake-side sunset, the city has something to offer to everyone. And the greatest thing is that it is comfortable and can be achieved at a small budget. Udaipur should be one of your top destinations on the list of your next cultural escape.
